Gentle chiropractic adjustments are mostly used in cases where a patient has a challenge in relaxing or doesn't like the cracking/cavitation sound or feeling during therapies. Chiropractic adjustments are more preferred than other traditional methods since they are gentler, and they don't cause any discomfort to the patient. A chiropractor uses methods like the low-velocity technique, which is good for improving joint motion.
The following are some of the gentle chiropractic adjustments
CERVICAL MOBILIZATION
Here, the patient lies on their back and relaxes as the chiropractor moves the neck vertebra right to left and vice versa using their hands. During this technique, the physician alternates between a figure eight movement and a side-to-side motion, and applies these movements at different degrees as they move the head backward, forward, in rotation, and also to the side. This technique is very smooth, and it is good for parts where movement is restricted, particularly in the cervical spine area. In addition, a chiropractor can utilize oscillatory movements using their hands in this technique.
CERVICAL MANUAL TRACTION
This technique requires the patient to sit or lie while facing up or down. Then, the physician gently applies pressure on the neck, and then uses forward and backward movements to stretch the cervical spine. This technique allows the chiropractor to reduce any tightness in the neck area. Also, many physicians like to combine cervical manual traction with cervical mobilization, where they can switch these two techniques or do them simultaneously.
CERVICAL DROP
Here, the patient lies to their either side or on their stomach, on a special table that allows the head-drop piece to be lifted into a locked position. Next, the doctor places their finger or hand on top of the spinal part that requires the adjustment. Then, the chiropractor applies low amplitude movement, a moderate velocity on that area until the table's drop section releases, then drops for a short space. Cervical drop helps in reducing the cervical vertebrae's restricted motion or fixation with the assistance of the specialized table.
ACTIVATOR METHOD
During this method, the chiropractor uses an activator, which is a spring-loaded, hand-held tool used to provide a low-pressure impulse. The patient is required to lie facing down and then the physician evaluates the length of the patient's leg. Next, the chiropractor uses the activator tool to adjust the extremity joints or the spine.
COX FLEXION-DISTRACTION
This technique involves a sequence of slow and repetitive movements, resembling a swaying motion. In this technique, a chiropractor uses gentle adjustments in order to adjust the vertebrae as a gentle stretch is applied to the lower part of the spine.

Ever since childhood, I’ve been a driven person. Even as a young kid, I always strived to make good grades. With my schoolwork, I was never satisfied unless I made a perfect score. As an adult, I still tend to be a perfectionist. For instance, I won’t leave my home until every hair is in place on my head. In my career, I work diligently to please my many clients. Unfortunately, my perfectionist nature often causes me to become tense. Whenever I’m stressed about something, the muscles in my neck and shoulders become extremely tight. Sometimes, this issue leads to tension headaches. Thankfully, I know where to go when I begin experiencing muscle tightness. I visit my trusted chiropractor. On this blog, you will discover the methods a chiropractor uses to relieve tension headaches.
